Skye Asta Devine Schirmer

Skye Asta Devine Schirmer is a Brooklyn based painter and printmaker. She co-runs Vega Studios in Bedstuy with Rachel Chicaguala where they promote inclusive and affordable studio space. She holds a BFA in printmaking from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and has worked in and with Kala Art Institute in Berkeley California; and Trestle and Brooklyn Art Space in Brooklyn New York.

As a New Yorker, her appreciation for the intricate ecosystems and connections to the vastness of all living things influences the way she navigates through living in the city and the subjects of her work. Schirmer utilizes her own experience with gender inequality and the environment in context with the current political climate.

She has shown throughout Boston, the Bay Area, Brooklyn, and North Carolina, with two minor solo shows in Brooklyn and Ithaca Ny. She has previously been a member of Brooklyn Art Space, the San Francisco Women’s Artists and the California Society of Printmakers. She is also a member of Adam Yokell’s “Foundwork” platform. Schirmer has participated in residencies at MASSMoCA (Ma), ChaNorth (Ny), Trestle (Ny), and Kala Art Institute (Ca). Schirmer has also worked in various fields as a production designer, artist assistant, studio assistant, farm hand, farmers market employee, teaching assistant, and guest critic.
